I Used to Buy Clothes I Hated, Just to Fit In

For years, I dressed for other people. A blazer because it looked “put together.” Heels I couldn’t walk in because a magazine told me they were the ones to own that season. I have a drawer somewhere, maybe still, full of clothes I bought and wore twice. That’s the confession. Outfitsbundle didn’t come from loving fashion in some pure, romantic way. It came from getting sick of getting it wrong.

The Closet That Started It All

Mariam Saleem, founder of Outfits Bundle

I’m Mariam Saleem, and I run Outfitsbundle. The short version of how it started: I hit my early thirties, opened my closet one Tuesday morning, and realized I didn’t actually like almost anything in it. Not because the pieces were bad. Because none of them were mine. They were versions of outfits I’d screenshotted from other women, other bodies, other lives.

So I did something a little obsessive, which is kind of my nature. I pulled everything out, laid it on the bed, and sorted it into two piles: things I put on and felt like myself, and things I put on and felt like I was performing. The second pile was bigger. That was uncomfortable to look at, but it was also the beginning of everything I write about here.

Why Clothes, Of All Things

People ask me this a lot, usually at parties, usually right after they find out what I do. Why clothes? Why not something that “matters more”?

Here’s my honest answer. What we wear is one of the only forms of communication we do before we’ve said a single word. It’s not shallow. It’s fast. A good outfit can make you stand taller in a meeting you’re nervous about. A bad one can make you feel like you’re wearing someone else’s skin for eight hours. I got tired of leaving that to chance, so I started studying it the way some people study anything they’ve decided to take seriously.

If You’ve Ever Stood in Front of Your Closet and Sighed

This site is for the woman who owns more clothes than she wears and still says “I have nothing to wear” most mornings. It’s for the one who’s tired of trend cycles that flip every six weeks and want something closer to a system. It’s for anyone rebuilding a wardrobe after a move, a breakup, a baby, a body change, or just a long stretch of not paying attention to any of it.

It is not for anyone looking for one “correct” way to dress. I don’t believe there is one. I believe there’s a way that works for your actual life, your actual closet, and your actual budget, and that’s what I’m trying to help people find.

What I Actually Know About This Stuff

Mariam Saleem, founder of Outfits Bundle

I didn’t come into this with a fashion degree, and I won’t pretend I did. What I have instead is a spreadsheet habit that borders on ridiculous. Before I started this site, I tracked cost-per-wear on every piece I owned for eleven months, partly to prove a point to myself about how little I actually wore the “statement” items I’d overspent on.

I’ve spent time behind the counter at a boutique in my early twenties, where I learned more about how clothes actually fit real bodies in fifteen months than I did from any style blog I’d read up to that point. I read fabric labels the way some people read ingredient lists, and I own exactly six pairs of shoes on purpose, after years of owning closer to thirty. None of that makes me an authority in some official sense. It’s just how I got here, and it’s why the advice on this site tends to be specific instead of vague.

How I Handle What Goes on This Site

I check my facts before anything goes live here, and if I get something wrong, I fix it. Every article gets a read-through for accuracy and clarity before it’s published, not just a spellcheck. Older posts get revisited and updated when sizing information, pricing, or availability changes, because outdated advice does more harm than no advice at all. If a link earns me a commission or a brand has sent me something, you’ll see that clearly marked, every time, no exceptions. I’d rather lose a sale than lose your trust in what I’m telling you.

What I Hope You Get Out of Being Here

If you read one article on this site and walk away with one small shift, that’s a win in my book. Maybe it’s realizing you’ve been buying the wrong size in a certain brand for years. Maybe it’s finally understanding why a piece that looked great on the model looked wrong on you, and it had nothing to do with you. Maybe it’s just permission to stop apologizing for what you like to wear.

I’m not here to sell you on a version of yourself that doesn’t exist yet. I’m here because I spent a long-time dressing for an audience that wasn’t paying attention, and I’d like to save you some of that time. Come back when you’re stuck on an outfit, or when you’re rebuilding a season of your closet from scratch. I’ll be here, probably rearranging a spreadsheet.

Thanks for stopping by. Now go clean out that one drawer you’ve been avoiding.
